The Yukon Heritage Training Fund is designed to fund limited-term training which will advance and enhance Yukon independent heritage workers, groups, and collectives of workers’ capacity to obtain and create employment and provide prospective employers with a better trained heritage labour force.

The priorities of the fund are to increase the number of people with necessary skills for heritage work; to retain independent heritage workers by providing them with funding assistance to access training opportunities; to provide human resources for the professional development of Yukon’s heritage resources; to support training that increases opportunities for Yukon independent heritage workers; and to develop capacity and sustainability in heritage sectors.

Eligibility: Individuals, businesses, collectives, non-profit heritage organization or other organizations engaged in the work of the heritage sector. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or Landed Immigrants. The funding is available for short, formal courses and workshops, job-shadowing, mentoring and informal apprenticeships.

Ineligible Criteria & Costs: Long-term education programs that leads to a diploma or degree, board development, training of government employees, funding to acquire non-technical skills unrelated to the sector, post-secondary education, and the costs of administration and coordination of institutions are ineligible. HTF will not cover computer or software costs.

Application & Assessment: Applications must build upon existing competencies to benefit a heritage sector labour market need, and must be supported by a sector employer. An adjudication committee comprised of 5 members representing the heritage sectors is responsible for selecting successful applications and evaluating final reports. The committee can also convene technical teams drawn from various Yukon government departmental staff to assist in decision-making. Applicants must be prepared to cover 10% of the total costs.
